The idea to start a vineyard came when a portion of their mountainous land was cleared by chance, leading them to plant Pinot Noir—a variety supposedly unsuitable for Virginia's climate. Against the odds, their first vintage in 2010 received acclaim, establishing Ankida Ridge as a pioneer in the region. Today, the vineyard is a family-run affair with their son Nathan as the winemaker.
