Baker-Bird Winery & Distillery Overview
Baker-Bird Winery & Distillery claims the prestigious title of the most historic spirits site in America. This venue prides itself on a rich heritage tied to American history and a vibrant selection of internationally acclaimed wines and spirits.
History and Background
The storied past of Baker-Bird stretches back to the American Revolution. The original distiller, John Baker, actively participated in the Whiskey Rebellion and subsequently became a prominent distiller in Washington County, Pennsylvania. In 1797, he relocated to Augusta, Kentucky, continuing his legacy. The highlight of the family's architectural achievements includes a massive wine cellar constructed in the 1850s by Abraham Baker Jr., his grandson. This cellar is not only the largest of its kind still in existence in the U.S. but is also listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and is notable for surviving a Civil War Battle.
