The winery was founded by Jerry Deal in July 1990, inspired by an amusing incident where he was caught stealing grapes. This led him to start his own vineyard, evolve from an amateur winemaker to a professional, and eventually open Forks of Cheat Winery. What began as a hobby is now a flourishing family business involving his wife Susan, his son Eric, and several dedicated staff members who form an extended family.
