Red Trail Vineyard Description
History and Background
Red Trail Vineyard, named after the historic Old Red Trail in North Dakota, is a family-operated vineyard located along the scenic Buffalo Creek on the outskirts of Buffalo, ND. Leveraging the fertile soils of the Red River Valley and traditional winemaking techniques, the vineyard specializes in producing wines with unique flavors and aromas from native hybrid grapes.
Vineyard Details and Wine Production
Red Trail Vineyard focuses on cultivating several types of native hybrid grapes, though certain varieties have shown particular resilience and productivity:
- Marquette and Frontenac: Produced about 60% of the previous year’s yield.
- King of the North: The most productive variety with 4950 pounds per acre.
- Frontenac Gris: Displayed resilience with a yield comparable to the prior year.
- Sabrevois, Prairie Star, and Petite Pearl: Lost entirely in the last harvest due to severe winter conditions.
2019 Grape Harvest
- The 2019 harvest concluded on October 9th, marking it as one of the latest harvests in 17 years with a reduced overall production due to the previous winter's harsh temperatures.
- All harvested grapes were delivered to Dakota Vines and Winery at Colfax where the wine processing took place.
