Founders Keith and Leslie Pritchard turned a hobby into a flourishing business. Keith, who has been an amateur winemaker since 1981, began his grape plantation journey in 1985. Originally intended to support his winemaking experiments, Keith soon found himself with an abundance of grapes. This surplus led him to sell grapes to fellow amateur winemakers and other small wineries.

By 1994, after grappling with the demands of his burgeoning hobby and personal life pressures, Keith saw an opportunity in turning his passion into a full-fledged winery. Thus, utilizing his accumulated skills and life experiences, Slate Run Vineyard was born, taking its name from a quaint creek nearby.
