Thanksgiving Farm - Heimbuch Estate Vineyards & Winery

Welcome to Thanksgiving Farm®, the first commercial winery in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, proudly offering a selection of estate-grown wines, each reflecting the unique terroir of our vineyards located just 20 miles east of the U.S. Capitol.

History and Background

Thanksgiving Farm, originally part of Richland Farm, was established in 1998 when Doug and Maureen Heimbuch began converting historic tobacco fields into vineyards. By 2006, the farm received its commercial winery license and has since been dedicated to sustainable land use and preserving the farm's rural character. This dedication is recognized by listings in the National Register of Historic Places and commendations from various agricultural departments.

Vineyard Details and Wine Production

Vineyards

• Size: 13 acres
• Varieties: Exclusively Bordeaux reds - Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.
• Techniques: Grapes are hand-picked late in the season to ensure full ripeness.

Winery

• Location: Harwood, MD 20776
• Production:
  • Utilizing small stainless steel tanks for batch fermentation.
  • Aging red wines in French oak barrels (varying usages per wine type).
• Facilities: Includes a wine processing facility, barrel aging room, and a sales room.

Visitor Information and Experiences

• Sales Room Hours:
  • April - November: Saturdays and Sundays, 12 noon to 5 pm.
  • December - March: Second Saturday of each month, 2 pm to 4 pm (weather permitting).
• Visitors can enjoy tastings, including Wine Tasting 6-Packs! for $50, serving up to 4 tasters. On-site consumption is available at outdoor tables where guests can also enjoy their own picnic foods. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 2 customers are allowed inside at a time, and on-site wine consumption rules may apply.

• Towhee® Wines: Produced from outsourced juices.
  • Dry Rosé 2020: A blend involving Merlot, Vermentino, and Sauvignon Blanc juices.
